Ludovic de Saint Sernin is heading for New York. The French designer, renowned for his sensual style and uninhibited eroticism, has been showing in Paris ever since his debut in June 2019, but will move overseas for the Fall/Winter 2024-25 season. de Saint Sernin will in fact feature on the official fashion week calendar in New York, where he will show on February 11, confirming the US market’s importance for his emerging label. He will be back in the French capital in June 2024.

de Saint Sernin stepped down as creative director of Ann Demeulemeester last May. He can now devote more time to his eponymous label, and has always had a strong connection with New York, where he was fêted in June with a huge party thrown in his honour. It was the occasion to establish new contacts and start preparing his forthcoming New York show.

The US city is more than a touchstone and a major source of inspiration, it is also a strategic platform for the Ludovic de Saint Sernin label. “After six years in business, the North American market has emerged as the most important for the brand in terms of revenue, and one of the most loyal,” said the label in a press release, indicating that the USA accounts for 32% of its total revenue. The new collection and the February show will therefore be the chance “for [Ludovic de Saint Sernin] to forge closer ties with the American market, and to pay tribute to a city which has played a crucial role in developing its current brand identity.”

de Saint Sernin said that “I have no words to express how excited I am with the idea of taking LdSS to New York. It is a city that has always held a special place in my heart. It has always been a source of inspiration, having traditionally been a key hub in the history of contemporary queer culture and for some of today’s most influential art movements, as well as a city where the label has been able to create an amazing community.”

de Saint Sernin, 32, was born in Brussels and grew up in France. A fashion design graduate from the Ecole Duperré in Paris, in 2018 he was a finalist at the LVMH Prize, and in the same year he won the ANDAM’s creative label award. He has worked at Saint Laurent and afterwards at Balmain, and in 2017 he launched his own menswear label, later adding womenswear.
