Strike by Bangladesh goods transport companies ends

Owners and workers of goods transport companies in Bangladesh who were on a 72-hour strike beginning September 21 have suspended their plan following a meeting with home minster Asaduzzaman Khan, according to Talukder Mohammed Monir, a top leader of the platform enforcing the strike, which halted goods transport from major sea and land ports.

The Bangladesh Covered-Van, Truck, Prime Mover Goods Transportation Owners Association and the Bangladesh Truck Drivers Workers Federation had called the strike with a 15-point demand list.

Monir, president of the Bangladesh Truck Drivers Workers Federation, said the minister agreed to meet 14 of their demands and sought time to meet the one related to the withdrawal of additional income tax, according to Bangla media reports.
