“Each artisan is an artist in their own right,” said Jaipur Rugs’ design director Kavita Chaudhary, Indian Retailer Bureau reported. “Through the Manchaha project, we tap into human intuition and creativity through the meditative process of weaving. This is how our weavers, untrained in art or design, win the world’s topmost global design awards, simply by tuning within themselves.”

The project will give Manchaha weaver artisans the time and resources to experiment within their craft practice. A group of women artisans are invited to work on their own artistic projects at Dhun Jaipur, away from their daily responsibilities.

Dhun Jaipur is a 500-acre large community which works to improve livelihoods through education, employment, and lifestyle. The artisans on the residency will be inspired by life at Dhun to explore new design styles, according to Dhun Jaipur. This will include working on 3D sculptural carpets which will involve learning new skills.

Following the artist residency, an exhibition will showcase the fruits of the artisans’ work. The ‘Manchaha Collection’ will be shown in a 2,580 square foot area which the public will be able to view through guided tours.
