Douglas County’s Board of Education on Tuesday voted to appoint Jason Page to the seat on the school board that became vacant when member Elizabeth Hanson resigned during a public meeting in May.

The board overseeing the Douglas County School District was split in its decision, voting 4 to 2 to appoint Page, who has a child in the district, to the open seat.

Page previously served on the board of directors at Ben Franklin Academy, a public charter school in Highlands Ranch, according to his application.

Hanson resigned before her term ended, citing differences with the board’s conservative majority, including changes to the district’s equity policy and the board majority’s refusal to settle a lawsuit that accused directors of violating Colorado law last year when they prepared to fire former Superintendent Corey Wise.

A judge ruled earlier this month that board members did violate the Colorado Open Meetings Law.)
