Cloudy skies, possible p.m. storms, National Weather Service

Scattered showers and thunderstorms in the mountains will drift into northeastern Colorado this afternoon bringing a chance for severe weather, especially east of the urban corridor.

In Denver, there’s a 40% chance for showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 3 p.m., according to the National Weather Service. Clouds will increase throughout the day and the high temperature will be about 79 degrees with winds gusting to 22 mph.

In northeastern Colorado, strong afternoon storms are expected to produce brief but heavy rain, small hail and winds up to 40 mph, the weather service said. The potential for flash floods in wildfire burn areas on Saturday will be limited.

Saturday night in Denver the chance for showers and thunderstorms, mainly before 10 p.m.,  holds at 40%, according to the weather service forecast. Skies will be mostly cloudy with a low temp near 53 degrees.

Sunday in Denver the chance for afternoon precipitation bumps up to 60%, with showers and thunderstorms likely after 4 p.m., the weather said. Skies will be mostly cloudy and the high temp will top out around 70 degrees. Sunday night in the city showers and thunderstorms are likely before 10 p.m., skies will be mostly cloudy and the low will dip to about 52 degrees.

Afternoon showers and thunderstorms, again, are likely Monday in Denver, there’s an 80% chance for precipitation, and the high will rise to about 71 degrees. Scattered showers will occur across the region Monday and there’s potential for a few severe thunderstorms along the southern foothills to the Palmer Divide, according to the weather service forecast. Wednesday, temperatures will rise in northeastern Colorado as a drier air mass enters the region limiting afternoon thunderstorms through late next week.
