Shades of India will set up shop in Chennai this February to give the city’s shoppers their first chance to browse its latest womenswear collection, Amethyst announced in a press release. The brand’s co-founder Mandeep Nagi will be on hand to discuss the inspirations and craft techniques behind the line to offer a background to the artisan collection which references the nizam culture of Hyderabad’s history.

“It starts from my madness of collecting old borders for many years,” said Shades of India’s co-founder Mandeep Nagi in a press release. “Some of these are very special as I don’t commonly see them anymore. These fine metallic (silver) woven borders, which were often used in traditional clothing from Gujarat, Rajasthan, Banaras and in old Deccan textiles, I have always been fascinated and looked out for them in the bazaars of different cities. Finally, in so many years, my pursuit was successful when I discovered these very beautiful metallic borders being still handwoven by very few in homes of old Hyderabad. I am so happy and proud to share my dream of using these unusual borders called ‘Khanjar’ in this limited-edition collection called Falaknuma.”

The collection features translucent sarees, beaded blouses, and earth-tones chevron prints for ensembles that highlight their heritage textiles. Garments in the collection are priced from Rs 20,000 onwards.
