Swimming allowed again at Cherry Creek State Park

The swimming area at Cherry Creek State Park reopened Saturday afternoon after testing showed bacteria in the water had dissipated.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife closed the swimming area on Thursday after high levels of E.coli were detected.

Parks employees test water daily at state swimming areas, and the Cherry Creek park’s lake was cleared for swimming on Saturday after bacteria levels dropped to safe levels, which are set by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, according to a CPW tweet.

Swimming at Chatfield State Park was reopened Friday after a brief closure for high levels of E.coli in the water.

Parks officials said the high bacteria levels can be caused by fecal waste from wildlife, run-off from urban areas or excessive run-off from rain. The park has received heavy rainfall this year.
