Sunny blue skies and mild summer conditions will prevail in metro Denver Friday and through the weekend, with a chance of afternoon thunderstorms bringing lightning and rain, according to the National Weather Service.
A few storms rolling over the plains east of the city may be severe, mostly beyond Fort Morgan and Limon, dropping ping-pong-sized hail with wind gusting at speeds as fast as 65 miles per hour, weather service forecasters said. But for Denver and cities along Colorado’s Front Range urban corridor, forecasters said any storms will be isolated. Meteorologists estimated the likelihood of rain on Friday at 10%.
The high temperature in Denver on Friday will be 89 degrees, decreasing to 60 degrees at night, forecasters said. On Saturday, the high is expected to be 86 degrees. On Sunday, forecasters said the high will decrease to 78 degrees. Over the weekend, night temperatures are expected to decrease to lows around 56 degrees — cooler than in recent months.
Any thunderstorms would hit after 2 p.m. Friday, forecasters said. Over the weekend, the likelihood of rain in metro Denver is estimated at 20% to 30%.
Across southwestern Colorado, abnormally dry conditions are spreading, weather service officials said. Moderate drought has taken hold in the San Luis Valley and in parts of Mesa, Montrose, Montezuma, Dolores and San Miguel counties.
A few severe storms are possible in the late afternoon and early evening, mainly east of Fort Morgan and Limon. Hail up to 1.5″ diameter and wind gusts to 65 mph are possible. Further west there will only be isolated storms with lightning and gusty winds the main threat. #cowx pic.twitter.com/PeZHNeouNQ
