Colorado Gov. Jared Polis named No. 2 in National Governors Association

Gov. Jared Polis was elected by fellow governors to be vice chair of the National Governors Association on Friday, a yearlong posting that follows his recently expired chairmanship of the Western Governor’s Association.
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox will serve as chair. The chair sets the association’s agenda for the year. Cox termed his “disagree better.” Each governor leads a state where their party holds strong majorities in their respective legislatures. Cox is a Republican and Polis is a Democrat.
“Progress transcends partisanship, and this is really about how every Democrat doesn’t agree with every other Democrat, every Republican doesn’t agree with every other Republican,” Polis said in an interview. “… It’s not about pretending like people don’t have different opinions, it’s about how can we more constructively share those opinions and work together towards moving Colorado and the county forward.”
The bipartisan association gives governors a chance to share notes on addressing shared issues and federal advocacy, Polis said. It’ll also give Colorado a spotlight on some of its successes, Polis said. He specified workforce innovation and Colorado’s moves in the energy transition.
