Suneet Varma holds couture showcase in Mumbai ahead of store launch


Couturier Suneet Varma unveiled his latest designs at Fashion Connect Season 20’s grand finale in Mumbai. The event marked two decades of Fashion Connect, a platform highlighting India’s fashion industry.

“Mumbai has always been a favourite city of mine to be at, to party at, to dress,” said eponymous designer Suneet Varma in a press release. “Some of the coolest and best-dressed people are in that city who are trendsetters, and it’s always a pleasure to show and sell here.”

The showcase featured an amalgamation of two collections- Nazm’ and ‘Quetzalli’, a collaboration with Patrón tequila. ‘Nazm’ blended traditional Indian craftsmanship with contemporary couture, incorporating hand-embroidered appliqué, metallic tissue, pastel organza, and chiffon in jewel tones. ‘Quetzalli’, inspired by Varma’s visit to the Patrón Hacienda in Mexico, fused Mexican and Indian artistry through lacework, sheer fabrics, and bold separates.

“I was incredibly excited to showcase ‘Nazm’ at Fashion Connect’s 20th anniversary in Mumbai,” said Varma. “This collection was my personal homage to India’s rich artistic legacy, reimagined for a contemporary audience.”

Varma also presented a menswear collection that adhered to the philosophy of ‘less is more’, featuring silk jacquard fabrics in ivory, ice blue, mint, navy, and cobalt. The collection focused on sleek, close-fitting silhouettes with thread embroidery and floral jacquards.

With Mumbai’s dynamic fashion scene as the backdrop, the showcase underscored Varma’s ties to the metro. “Mumbai is a city of immense energy, creativity, and style,” said Varma. “It’s a market that values fashion, and I was truly excited to be back here, presenting my best work to date.”

The runway shoe was held on March 12 at Fairmont Mumbai. Following the presentation, Varma is gearing up to launch a store in Mumbai to further connect with the city’s shoppers.
