Storms roll eastward, sunny blue skies and warm temps expected through weekend

Stormy severe weather will shift eastward away from metro Denver on Friday and residents face sunny blue skies, mostly clear of clouds — and can plan on warm temperatures through the weekend, according to the National Weather Service.

A light breeze may blow across the city, weather service forecasters said.

The high temperatures in Denver will hit 87 degrees on Friday, 86 degrees on Saturday, and 83 degrees on Sunday, forecasters said. At night, those temperatures will decrease to no lower than 52 degrees.

Scattered afternoon storms, if they develop, likely will hit east of Colorado’s urban Interstate 25 corridor — out toward Greeley and Akron and the northeastern plains, forecasters said. If storms do develop, they said, the result could be large hail, damaging winds, and possibly a tornado. Creeks on the plains were running high and fast Friday, nearly flooding in some areas, and meteorologists advised caution.

Along the Front Range, soils were saturated from recent heavy rain but little new moisture was expected. Storms in recent days led to flooding, including high water flowing over roads north of Denver in Commerce City.

Out on the plains Friday, high temperatures near La Junta were expected to reach around 95 degrees.
