Russia’s Sakha Republic sends delegation to Jaipur to explore jewellery trade links
A government delegation from Russia’s Sakha Republic (Yakutia), a major global source of rough diamonds, recently visited Jaipur to explore trade collaborations in the gems and jewellery sector. The delegation held discussions with the Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council, facilitated by the Industries Department of the Government of Rajasthan through DGM Sonia Sangari.

The meeting was attended by GJEPC regional chairman Yogendra Garg, regional director Nitin Khandelwal, and World Trade Centre Jaipur assistant director Navneet Agarwal, the GJEPC announced on its website. Discussions focused on leveraging Jaipur’s expertise in coloured gemstones to establish potential partnerships between Yakutia and Jaipur. The Government of Rajasthan assured its support to the GJEPC in advancing these initiatives.
The delegation was led by Kim Borisov, deputy chairman of the Government of Sakha Republic (Yakutia) and permanent representative in the Far East Federal District, along with Gavril Kirillin, minister for external relations and ethnic affairs of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia). Sakha, also known as the Republic of Sakha, is the largest republic in Russia, located in the Russian Far East along the Arctic Ocean. With a population of one million, it plays a crucial role in the global diamond trade.
The visit to Jaipur signals an effort by the Sakha Republic to strengthen ties with India’s jewellery industry, particularly in sourcing, processing, and trade partnerships. The GJEPC works to boost Indian gem and jewellery exports and, as part of this, undertakes global outreach activities.
