Live news updates: Talks between Indian and Chinese military commanders failed on Sunday because the Chinese side was “not agreeable” to suggestions to resolve the border dispute in Eastern Ladakh, said the Indian Army this morning.

“The two sides have agreed to maintain communications and also to maintain stability on the ground,” said an Army statement.

“During the meeting, the Indian side made constructive suggestions for resolving the remaining areas but the Chinese side was not agreeable and also could not provide any forward-looking proposals. The meeting thus did not result in resolution of the remaining areas,” it said.

The Maharashtra Vikas Agadi (MVA), the three-party political alliance that governs Maharashtra, has called for a bandh in the state today to protest the killing of farmers in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri on October 3. Essential services will operate during the shutdown called by the Shiv Sena, Congress and Nationalist Congress Party.
