A King Soopers store in Colorado Springs is temporarily closed because of safety concerns over asbestos.

The store, 2910 South Academy Blvd., is being remodeled and recent testing indicates the “possible existence of asbestos,” the company said in a news release. The store “is temporarily closed out of an abundance of caution.”

Store operators are working with the Colorado Department of Public Health & Environment moving forward as well as an independent asbestos abatement experts.

“The store will remain closed until there is full confidence that all concerns have been addressed,” the release said. Meanwhile, patrons are asked to shop at other nearby King Soopers locations in Colorado Springs.
