The IndiaSize project is poised for its country-wide rollout, an anonymous source in the Ministry of Textiles told Apparel Resources. By having a standardised clothing size chart for the Indian market, the government aims to contribute towards the organisation of the sector, boost consumer confidence, and enable clothing brands to tailor their designs to Indian sizes.

Having an India specific sizing chart will also give shoppers increased confidence to shop online, where they cannot try clothing before they buy it but they can consult with a size chart. The Union Government is promoting ‘Make in India’ to boost domestic production and increasing the amount of clothing made in India for Indian bodies would give shoppers another reason to purchase from desi brands which will in turn create employment opportunities should they experience growth.

The Ministry of Textiles’ secretary Rachna Shah opined that the soon approaching IndiaSize rollout will help the Indian industry to cater to its own population, Apparel Resources reported. The Textiles Ministry also plans to launch a ‘Centre of Sustainable Fashion Technology’ to advance research into making the fashion industry more sustainable.
