Duchess Kumari debuts maiden collection at Project Tete-A-Tete event

Luxury fashion brand Duchess Kumari made its offline retail debut at the Project Tete-A-Tete store in Mumbai with a collection launch and high-tea event co-hosted by influencer Reshma Ajbani on March 28. The soft launch event brought together fashion influencers, socialites, and industry names for a showcase set against live violin and sitar performances.

Duchess Kumari was recently launched by actor, singer, and filmmaker Adhyayan Suman and architect-turned-Miss Universe India Divita Rai, the brand announced in a press release. The label’s creative direction is led by fashion designer Alka Suman, who brings 35 years of industry experience to the role.

“Duchess Kumari is more than a label, it’s a tribute to today’s woman who truly does it all,” said Suman and Rai in a press release. “Partnering with PTAT for this showcase allowed us to connect with an audience that truly appreciates heritage woven into contemporary design.”

Designed to blend traditional craftsmanship with contemporary design, the collection features textiles such as brocades, raw silk, chanderi, and ikkat, paired with elements like bows, polka dots, pearls, and crystals. The result is a reinterpretation of traditional wear designed to bridge elegance and modernity, according to Duchess Kumari. The label retails both prêt and bespoke offerings and posits that modern royalty is about self-definition rather than lineage.
