High temp of 99 degrees expected Monday in Denver

There’s a chance for showers and thunderstorms today in Denver before a dry and hot weather settles in for a spell starting Sunday.

Denver has a 30% chance for afternoon showers and thunderstorms Saturday, skies will be mostly sunny and the high temperature will hit about 85 degrees, according to the National Weather Service forecast. Overnight skies in Denver will be mostly cloudy and the low temp will be near 61 degrees.

Hot, dry weather kicks in on Sunday and it will trend into midweek, according to the weather service, raising wildfire concerns in widespread areas.

On Sunday in Denver the high temperature will climb to about 93 degrees under sunny skies, the weather service said.

Monday will likely be the hottest day of the year so far in Denver with a forecast high temperature of 99 degrees. Tuesday will also be scorching hot in the city with a high near 97 degrees.

The metro area forecast calls for a string of 90-degree days, through Wednesday, before high temperatures back down a bit into the upper 80s on Thursday and Friday as scattered afternoon showers and thunderstorms return. Overnight lows in the metro area will be in the 60s through the weekend and into the upcoming week.
