Level Up Your St Petersburg’s Home with These Design Trends

Last Updated on May 21, 2022 by Andrew

Home design trends seem to come and go every few years, with changes in colors, textures, and materials.  But some design trends stick around for a while and even grow in popularity.  2022’s home design trends are very similar to the year prior with a focus on nature, sustainability, and comfort.  Take your St Petersburg home up a level by incorporating these home design trends.

Earthy Tones

If you are considering painting the interior of your home and you want to stick with the most recent trends, you should consider using earthy tones.  Loved for the natural relaxing feel that they evoke, earthy tones are the perfect color for a St. Petersburg home.  To incorporate earthy tones into your home, first consider the colors that you see right outside your door.  Blues, greens, creams, white and browns.  Consider these colors when you are searching for the perfect paint color.  Light blues and creams can evoke the feeling of the sea, while sage and brown will bring the feel of a warm tropical forest.  Regardless of what earthy tone you choose, you will bring the feel of nature right into your home.

Light Woods

Still working within the concept of nature in the home, wood accents are the perfect way to add natural textiles.  In Florida, light wood is becoming more popular and will make an impact on interior design this year.  For many years, people were drawn to darker wood such as cherry and mahogany.  In 2022, more homeowners are opting for lighter woods such as oak.  Light wood can be added to the home with wide-plank flooring, oak tables, and light wood shelves.

Textures

While neutral color palettes and simple design elements may be the basis for a home, additional textures can bring a room to life.  In 2022, St. Petersburg homeowners can create layered exceptional rooms by incorporating many different textures.  For those bold enough to add large scale texture to a room there are a variety of texture wall panels, tiles, or natural stone that can be added to an accent wall to create a large focal point.  Another option is the addition of gilded mirrors or handcrafted textile wall hangings.  Each of these has a different texture and will bring depth to the room.

Texture can also be added in furniture.  Popular furniture textures include soft velvets and woven furniture over soft fluffy rugs.  These create a warm inviting space.  You can also add hard textures through small accent pieces such as vases, throw pillows, and lamps.

Curved Furniture

Most homeowners are used to straight lined furniture.  But 2022 has homeowners shifting from straight basic furniture to curved artistic furniture.  The curved furniture trend isn’t entirely new to home interiors; it was first seen during the 1970s. The rounded corners of these sofas, chairs, ottomans, and other furniture pieces are softer and more cozy.  They make a space look interesting and offer not just a comfortable sitting space, but also an artistic focal point when placed correctly.

Nature

2021’s popular trend of bringing nature indoors continues to be a big influence in 2022.  Florida residents are now creating entire living walls with their favorite plants.  These walls hold plants of all shapes and sizes in pots that are often finished in metallic accents.  Living walls can be outfitted with anything from wood planks to metal mesh where potted plants can be hung.  Any amount and variety of plants can be added to the wall to grow and thrive creating a wall that is truly living.  Nature can be added around the house by placing large potted plants in open areas or in corners for a burst of color.

 Indoor – Outdoor Space

Just as homeowners have strived to bring nature into their homes, they also strive to bring their outdoor living space into their home.  Florida homeowners are no stranger to creating a seamless indoor-outdoor living space.  These are often created with large double or sliding doors that open into an outdoor shaded patio area.  Here, there will most likely be comfortable outdoor seating, an outdoor kitchen, fireplace, in-ground pool, and clearly displayed pathway.  Creating an indoor outdoor living space creates the feel of additional square footage especially in areas like St. Petersburg where the outdoors provide year-round beautiful scenery.

Outdoor Privacy

With so much more time being spent outdoors, homeowners are more interested in outdoor privacy.  Privacy can be easily achieved by utilizing either a privacy fence made of wood, vinyl, or aluminum or through a living privacy wall.  A living privacy wall is created out of tall boxwoods or other tall shrubs.  Homeowners are also installing tall lattice fences and covering them with potted outdoor plants.  They are also successfully growing vining plants from the ground in front of the trellis so that the plant can climb and create a wall of green vines and bright flowers.

St. Petersburg, Florida is no stranger to trendy home interior designs.  Many residents have already taken to the natural vibe of recent home trends.  They can level up their interiors even more with additional placements of earth toned accents or an addition to their outdoor living area.  If you are concerned about updating your home to follow the most recent design trends, contact a local trusted real estate agent who can assist you.
