The Giants canceled Thursday’s and Friday’s OTA practices due to the air quality inside their indoor practice facility in East Rutherford, N.J.

Smoke from raging wildfires in Canada, combined with a low pressure weather system, continue to impact daily life in the Northeast.

The team initially moved Thursday’s practice indoors due to the conditions, which rated an “unhealthy” 198 on the official Air Quality Index, bordering on “very healthy” at 200.

But head coach Brian Daboll said some Giants players mentioned the hazy indoor conditions to head athletic Ronnie Barnes during meetings in a tent at one corner of an end zone inside the practice bubble.

”Some of the players brought it up to Ronnie,” Daboll said. ”Ronnie brought some of for doctors out.”

Barnes, the doctors, Daboll and GM Joe Schoen huddled up and determined they will cancel practice until next week’s minicamp.

A huge garage door was open at the back of the indoor field for the duration of coordinator media availability, which obviously accounted at least partially for the air quality indoors.

”I said what do you guys want to do? I said OK,” Daboll said.

The Giants also canceled Thursday’s player media availability, even though reporters and players were both already on site.

They are scheduled to have their mandatory minicamp next Tuesday and Wednesday before breaking until training camp in late July.
