live updates: India recorded 26,727 new cases of Covid-19 and 277 deaths in 24 hours, said the on Friday, marking an almost 14 per cent rise in daily infections since Thursday. Total Covid-19 cases reached 33.77 million and death toll 448,339.


Active cases—people under treatment for Covid-19–comprise 0.82 per cent of total infections: the lowest since March 2020. The national recovery rate is at 97.86 per cent: the highest since March 2020, the ministry said.

India’s factory activity improved last month as a recovery in the economy from the pandemic-induced slump boosted demand and output, according to a private survey, but firms reduced headcount at the sharpest pace since May. The country collected Rs 1.17 trilion as Goods and Services Tax in September: the third month straight the amount was more than a trillion.
World update: Covid-19 is continuing to spread around the world, with 234,525,066 confirmed cases and 4,796,408 deaths across nearly 200 countries recorded since China reported its first cases in December 2019. The US remains the worst-hit country with 44,314,403 cases, followed by India, Brazil, UK and Russia.
